A change of plan mid-walk!!
The weather last week was a little variable and, as it turned out, we chose the worst of it for our walk from Seatoller at the southern end of Borrowdale.
We followed the plan for the first half of the day, heading south via Seathwaite and Stockley Bridge, and made our way up alongside Grains Gill and then Ruddy Gill. The falls along here are always great to see, there are plenty of places to get close for great pictures (see main pic) and, given that this section sees us climb over 400m into the mountains, there's plenty of them. But today, with the extra rain that was still coming down, they were even better!!
I always have Plan B (and sometimes C and D too) up my sleeve and as we got closer to the top of this gully, where the next section would have seen us climb to the summit of Glaramara, it was clear that a change of plan was the sensible option. The rain had started earlier, and was heavier for longer, than had been forecast and with the strong winds which were already close to the forecasted speeds even before we got higher, we headed in the opposite direction and walked back via Styhead Gill (effectively undertaking one of our "standard" walks in reverse).
We may have missed out on a summit but we gained a series of falls down Styhead Gill plus being able to get close to a spectacular fall, Taylorgill Force, that today (see above) looked even better than normal.
What a superb day!!
