Snow

I had no walks planned that weekend earlier in December when the snow swept through my part of Cumbria but was still desperate to head out. As I had other things to do on the Sunday I decided to be sensible and not add to the likely troubles on the roads so went for a local walk, including heading up to Kendal Castle (see main picture).

However, as the pictures of stranded and skidding cars along the road to Windermere started to appear online I grabbed my bag and boots and headed out for a walk to see what I could do - for the next four hours this mostly involved chatting to people as they sat in their cars wondering what their options were, pushing cars up slippery slopes that they were struggling to get up and generally (with others who had come out) seeing what I could do to help. It was amazing how localised the heavy snow was, centred around South Cumbria and barely affecting the north of the County. Eventually the roads quietened and I headed home (and remembered to get my phone out for a picture so only caught the empty scene below around three hours after there was a single line of spread out vehicles gingerly trying to move forward).

I headed away from the area for a few days and by the time I got back the snow had mostly gone!!
