Stickle Ghyll & Dungeon Ghyll

A cracking walk from last week on the day after Storm Debi passed through, meaning there was plenty of water around, both underfoot and flowing in today's selection of falls.

We started in Great Langdale by the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and kicked things off with a great walk up following Stickle Ghyll from the valley to the tarn it flows from; the waterfalls were wonderful.

We followed the path around Stickle Tarn but then, soon after leaving the tarn behind us, and where most walkers head up to the summit of Pavey Ark, we kept going along Bright Beck, following it for another kilometre in distance (and over 150m in height). For me this is one of the best parts of this walk, following a beck from beginning to end (well, the opposite actually!!) - the waterfalls on this one are terrific, and we needed to constantly cross and recross the beck to keep on heading up.

Finally we reached the soggy ground at the top (see above!!) and headed off to tick off some summits, three today - Thunacarr Knott, Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle (the last two with terrific views into Great Langdale and beyond).

The closing section of our walk was to follow Dungeon Ghyll back down, mostly at a good distance, but as we got closer to the valley floor we were able to get near to the lower falls of Dungeon Ghyll Force for some great pictures.

Please book me for this walk as I love it!!
